summarize the points made in the lecture you just heard, explaining how they cast doubt on the contents of the reading. You may refer to the passage as you write
In the lecture, the professor made several points about the effects of fire suppression. The professor argues that fire suppression may have long-term effects on the forest it is supposed to protect. However, the author of the passage believes that fire suppression has been of good than harm. The professor mentioned a number of points that cast doubt on the passage.
The first point that the professor uses that casts doubt on the passage is the inability of young trees to grow. According to the professor, there are trees such as young oak that require light but can’t grow due to the availability of bigger trees that are preventing sunlight from reaching the oak trees. The passage stated that the maturation of so many trees has resulted in the formation of a continuous canopy but according to the professor, this will prevent other trees such as oak from growing.
Another point that the professor made that cast doubt on the passage is the increase in the population of deer. The author of the passage stated that animals like deer are not burnt to death and their population has increased notably. However, the professor argues that since the population of deer has increased, plants like oak that are struggling to grow will be eaten by deer.
Also, the author of the passage stated that forest fires reduce the number of nutrients in the soil. The professor however disputed that claim by stating that the nutrients of the soil may indeed be reduced by the fire but nutrients are released from animals and plants that are burnt due to the forest fire. These nutrients from animals and plants replace the nutrients that are lost due to the fire.
In conclusion, the points made in the lecture contrasts the reading and demonstrate that the reading is in doubt.
