The reading and lecture are both about the nuclear power plant. The author of the reading states that it has adversely affecting the environment so utilization of this source must be limit and instead use other possible alternatives such as wind, solar energy and so on. The lecturer disagrees. He opposes the idea and attacks each of the claims made in the article.
First, the author begins by stating that merely small fraction of nuclear power are being used and other are toxic that has harmful impact on ambiance. In addition there are no ways to eradicate it rather than preserving it. Owing to this, our future generation are going to suffer it’s effects. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends although it has cause few problem however other electricity sources such as solar and wind are also detrimental to the environment. Furthermore, there has been evidence of death caused by the harmful chemical emitted by these sources.
Secondly, according to the writing, wastes generated from nuclear energy have repercussions to the environment. Likewise, it can cost to the death of people as well. Moreover, disaster to the Fukushima has proved nuclear power to be hazardous. The speaker on other hand points out that, unwanted substances from nuclear is not permanent since there are numerous measures introduced in order to manage these wastes. Indeed, some of them are found to be promising as well.
Finally, the reading passage also suggest for the usuage of renewable sources such as solar power and wind power instead. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that they are not worth it because they cannot provide constant electricity. For instance, if there is no enough wind then how could wind power supply electricity? Therefore, they are not worth it.
All things considered, the author and lecturer holds conflicting views on nuclear power plant. The speaker effectively challenges writer’s argument.
