In the middle of 2016, there was an equal number of visitors spending time on ships and on the land, bringing the total to just below 3 million. Finally, in 2017, the was a marked increase in tourists, totalling to 3.5 million people, that were represented by 2 million cruise ship passengers and 1.5 million residing on the island.
