the graph and table below. give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries
The graph illustrates the amount of water consumed globally in 3 different sectors from 1900 to 2000, while the table highlights how much water was used in Brazil and Congo in 2000. At first glance, figures of all three categories experienced upward patterns, with the highest and the lowest being agriculture and households, respectively. It is also readily evident that water consumption in Brazil per capita was significantly higher than that of Congo.
As observed, from 1900 to 1940, the use of water in agriculture registered a gradual increase from 500 to 1000 cubic kilometers. In the meantime, industrial and domestic use shared relatively similar figures as little changes were recorded. However, from 1940 onwards, the amount of water devoted to industry witnessed a dramatic rise and ended the period at around 1300 km3 in 2000, more than double that of domestic use. The figure for agriculture continued to grow ceaselessly and reached 3000 km3, indicating a three-fold increase after a 60-year time span.
Regarding the table, 8m3 of water was consumed per person in Congo, which was insignificant compared to that of Brazil at 359 m3. The same pattern was observed in irrigated land and population, where figures for Brazil were 26 400 km2 and 170.8 million higher, respectively.
