The graph below shows the average monthly change in the prices of three metals during 2014.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The given chart illustrates how the costs of copper, nickel and zinc varied in each month of 2014.
Generally, all metals’ prices experienced several fluctuations during 2014. Besides, while the prices were high at the beginning of the year, significant drops were seen in the summer and autumn, followed by a slight recovery during winter.
Starting at a 6% increase in price, Nickel was the metal with the highest proportion change in cost in January. In the following months, although both nickel and copper witnessed a price decline, the decrease in nickel was more noticeable than that of copper. Moreover, in June, all metals’ cost reached their bottom in terms of percentage variation with a decrease of -3% for nickel, -1% for zinc and -0.5% for copper.
Regarding the other haft of 2014, there were growths of three metals’ prices in July, followed by a stable period of three months when the proportion changes remained unchanged. Finally, despite some minor drops in the figures for three metals in October, they all recovered at the end of the year.
