The chart below shows the number of men and women in further education in Britain in three periods and whether they were studying fulltime or part-time.
The bar chart illustrates the number of students in both genders, who studied in further education in the UK, categorized by full-time and part-time education, in the years 1970, 1980 and 1990.
It can be clearly seen from the chart that the number of students who applied for part-time education outnumbered the others over a period shown. In addition, the figure for part-time female students experienced an upward trend.
As for male students, around 1000 individuals chose part-time education, compared to well under 200 people, who applied for full-time education, while the figure for females was just under 800 individuals in 1970. Despite a significant drop of 200 people in 1980, the number of part-time males recovered to 900 people in 1990, whereas that of full-time males witnessed a consistently slight rise of 250 individuals over a 30 year period.
By 1970, well under 50 females had chosen full-time education, which was nowhere near as many as those studied part-time, at 750 individuals. Following this, the number of full-time females saw a swift rise of around 200 people in 1980, and then remained fairly stable 10 years later. In terms of women applying for part-time education, a slight rise of 800 individuals was seen in 1980, which doubled that chose to study full-time, after which the figure went up drastically to just under 1200 individuals in 1990.
