In general, Europe had the largest forested land over the period shown, while its of Ocenia was the least. Besides, an upward trend can be seen in Asia and Europe, whereas the remaining areas experience a contrasting tendency.
Looking at the year 1990, Europe's forest area was the biggest, at 989 million hectares, closely followed by South America, at 946 million hectares, distantly by Africa, North America and Asia, at 749, 708 and 576 million hectares, respectively. Meanwhile, its of Ocenia was only 199 million hectares.
Additionally, size of forested land in Europe increased dramatically to 998 in 2000 and 1001 million hectares in 2005. On a contrary, its of Africa, North America, Oceania and South Africa fell gradually to 691, 705, 197 and 882 million hectares in 2005. Furthermore, Asia's forest area width dropped to 570 in 2000, but rose again by 14 million hectares in 2005
