The diagram illustrate the process of the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (or OTEC), a system for producing electricity from seawater.
The process can be divided into two main stages: producing electricity and making drinkable water.
Firstly, water vapour from seawater heated by the sun is collected and led to the evacuated evaporation chamber, where salt is extracted to produce saltless water vapour. It then goes through a special turbine and thereby creates electricity from kinetic energy. The saltless water vapour proceeds to reach the condensing chamber, where, as the name suggests, it turns back to its former liquid form with the help of cold seawater surrounding the outside of the chamber and becomes pure water for drinking.
In addition, the salt separated from the seawater vapour earlier is sent back to the ocean and continue to join in the cycle.
