The graph compares the proportion of spending on five different categories in the US, Canada, the UK, and Japan in 2009.
Overall, all the nations spent on food, housing, and transportation more than on health care and clothing. In addition, it was observed that housing was the most commonly chosen item throughout the year 2009.
Specifically, 26% of the Americans’ budget was spent on accommodation, the most popular spending among the five categories, followed by transportation, food, health care, and clothing, with approximately 17%, 14%, 7% and 3% respectively. In terms of Canada, citizens in this nation also spent mostly on housing, at about 21% in 2009. Subsequently, it was 20% for transport category, 15% for food, 6% for fashion, and 4% for health care system.
Looking at the UK’s spending, people allocated 20% of their money to food, 24% to housing, 15% to transportation, 6% to clothing and about 2% to their health expense. Meanwhile, Japanese people paid mainly for their food, at roughly 23%. The percentage in the remaining categories seemed to be lower, with 22% spending on housing, 10% on transport expenses, and below 5% on both medical care and fashion.
