The reading and the lecture discuss different theories about the way Agnostic used to live. The passage claims that there are three different theories about Agnostides' behavior. However, the speaker brings up three reasons to rebut all dubious ideas presented in the passage and states that each of these theories has serious weakness.
First of all, the writer holds the view that several pieces of evidence prove that Agnostides were Free-Swimming predators. In contrast, the lecturer refutes this idea and underlines the fact that these marine animals have not had appropriate organs for hunting. Indeed, all predators have big and developed eyes. However, the Agnostids fossils are strong evidence to prove that they had poor eyes. As we know, vision is one of the best tools for tracking hunts that Agnostides did not have. Moreover, there is not any evidence to show that they had a special sensory organ for tracking hunts.
Second of all, the author contends that Agnostides may live as Seafloor Dwellers. However, the speaker contradicts this contention and asserts that their moving speed and their ability for moving far do not match with seafloor dwellers’' properties. As a matter of fact, seafloor dwellers do not have the ability to move fast and for, so they live in small geography location. Therefore, the fossils of these kinds of marines should be found in small places. However, Agnostids fossils have been found in malty places that show the ability to swim far. This ability is unusual for a seafloor dweller.
Finally, the writer states that argonotids life depended on their hosts. In other words, they have fed from larger fishes. On the contrary, the professor rebuts this statement and stresses that the agnostid's population is an evidence to roll out this theory. In fact, parasitic's population cannot exceed a limited amount, since it harms the host. However, the agnostides fossils have shown that the agnostids population was large.
