The diagram below shows the production of electricity using a system called Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC).
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.
The diagram shows how electricity is created by Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion, which is used the temperature difference of the seawater levels.
There are 3 main components in the process, including evaporation chamber, a turbine and a condensing chamber. In addition, the surface can heat up to 29 degrees Celsius, and in the deep water sea can be only 5 degrees Celsius.
Looking at the first stage, the surface of seawater is heated by the solar energy produced by the sun. As it warms, it is then turned into the water vapour and enters the first stage of the system which is the evaporation system. In this step, the water is boiled until it is separated between salt water and unsalted water.
The process continues with the saltless water is evacuated into the turbine. As it drives the turbine, the unsalted water produced the electricity which means it is ready to enter the next step. In the final stage, the saltless water enters the condensing chamber. Here, it is converted into the cold water by the depths of the ocean and after processed in the condensing system, the water is purified to become drinking water. On the other hand, the remaining waste of salted seawater enters the ocean to begin the process all over again.
