The upper diagram picture the different period of silkworm's life. It last around 7 weeks for an egg to become a cocoon, and if the cocoon is not selected for silk cloth production, it will become a moth after 16 days. The lower diagram describes the process of making silk cloth from the cocoon, and it has 5 main stages.
To begin with, 10 days after a moth leaves eggs on a mulberry leaf, silkworms come out of eggs and feed from the leaf. Then after 4 to 6 weeks, they start to make their silk threads and go into it. These silk threads become a cocoon after 3 to 8 days. If the cocoon is chosen for silk cloth production, the larva's life become to an end; otherwise it becomes a moth after 16 days and it can give birth to the next silkworm larva generation.
If the cocoon is selected for silk cloth production, it is first boiled in a pot of water. Then it is unwound, and produce between 300 to 900 meters of thread. In the next stage, thread is twisted and transferred to the weaving or dyeing stage. If it is gone to the weaving stage, after weaving it would sent to dye pot; hence, the dye pot is the final stage of silk cloth production.
