The chart below shows the annual number of rentals and sales (in various formats) of films from a particular store between 2002 and 2011.
The bar chart demonstrates the quantity of rented and sold films in different formats, such as rentals, VHS sales, DVD sales and Blu-ray sales from a particular market.
It is noticeable that, the highest statistics were shown in DVD sales after 2004, before which rentals were most popular. However, Blu-ray films were appeared on markets for sale only in 2007, but still had the lowest figures.
On the one hand, about 185,000 films were rented by people in 2002, but then it began to decrease and showed 180,000 rentals after one year. Between 2004 and 2011 it enormously declined from nearly 165,000 to 67,000 rentals, respectively and its place replaced by DVD sales. It was about 46,000 DVD sales in 2002 before experiencing a boom and reaching a peak with over 210,000 sales in 2007. Fortunately it registered a downward trend until 2011.
On the other hand, the number of VHS sales illustrated about 85,000 in 2002, yet it dropped to nearly 10,000 in 2005 and after a year it began to disappear according to the chart. Regarding Blu-ray , it was introduced in 2007, its shares made up about 2,000 in same year and it started to slightly rise , approximately 12,000 Blu-ray films were sold in the last given year.
