Overall, it can be seen that the percentage of people who owned accommodation increased over the period while people who rented accommodation declined at the same period.
In 1918, people who rented accommodation accounted for 77% while the percentage of people who rented accommodation was at 24%. Then for the following 21 years the percentage decreased steadily to about 68% for people who rented accommodation, in contrast, the percentage of households who owned accommodation increased by 10%. From 1939 to 1953 the percentage for both households leveled off, then in 1971 year the percentage who owned and rented accommodation comprised of 50%.
In the period from 1971 to 2001 the percentage of owners increased to rich a high at 69% while people who rented the accommodation dropped dramatically to a low of 31%. For the next decade the percentage decreased to finish the period at about 64% for house owners and raised to 36% for people who rented the accommodation.
