The line graph compares how many burglaries, car thefts and robberies committed in Newport city centre between 2003 and 2012.
Overall, the number of burglary recorded decreased significantly over the period while car theft's cases fluctuated. The figure for robbery remained relatively stable. It is also noticeable that from 2003 to 2006 burglary was the most common committed crime but was replaced by car theft in the following years.
In 2003, there were nearly 3500 of burglaries recorded and the figure rose to peak at around 3800 in 2004, before declining continuously to hit a low of just over 1000 in 2008. The number went up to almost 1500 in 2009 and remained the same until 2012.
Robbery comprised the lowest number of cases over the period where its figure hovered between 500 and just under 1000. The number of car thefts that transpired was around 3000 from 2003 to 2005, and fluctuated slightly over the following 4 years when the lowest figure was noted. Then, subsequently it grew to approximately 1,500 in 2010 before levelling off.
