The bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian men and women who were overweight from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, it can be observed that the amount of overweight males was always higher than that of females from 19080 to 2010, whereas the figures for both genders increased over the same period.
In 1980, the percentage of overweight men occupied 40%, which subsequently witnessed a significant increase to nearly 50% in 1990. Although this figure reached the highest point at approximately 65% in 2000, it experienced a slight reduction to 50% in 2010.
On the other hand, only 30% of Australian women suffered from being overweight in 1980, which was lower than the percentage of males. However, there was a stable increment in the proportion of overweight women to more than 40% in 1990. The amount of overweight women then peaked at more than 50% in 2000, before remaining unchanged in 2010.
