The given line chart illustrates the unemployment rates in Australia in four quarters of 2012.
Overall, it is clear that the figures in both areas experienced significant changes throughout the year. In addition, the percentage of unemployment in urban areas saw an upward trend, as opposed to that in rural areas, which revealed an opposite trend.
It can be seen from the chart that, at the beginning of the period , the proportion of unemployed people in rural regions and urban areas stood at nearly 7% and 2%, respectively. Afterwards, the rates underwent opposite trends, in which the figure in rural areas declined considerably to above 4%, by contrast, that in cities which indicated a dramatic growth to nearly 4% at the end of the first quarter. From the second quarter to the fourth quarter, the percentage of jobless people in the countryside saw a marginal fluctuation around a downward trend. In contrast, the proportion in urban areas witnessed a remarkable fluctuation around an upward trend. It is noticeable that two figures ended up at approximately 5%.
