The charts below show the main reasons for study among students of different age groups and the amount of support they received from employers.

The given bar charts reveal information regarding the major purposes for which various aged individuals study and the amount of support, namely time off allowed and financial help that such students’ employers offer. On the whole, the older the employees, the more likely they study for their own interests. Apart from this, the middle-aged students are supported least by their companies.

To begin with, in terms of reasons for study, there are four-fifths of young workers who are under 26 years old studying for career purpose, yet only around 10% of this age group is motivated by personal interests. In fact, the proportion of students aged between 26 and 49 who study mainly for career development declines constantly by approximately 10% as the age of them increases by every decade. Apparently, nearly 40% of the 40 to 49 aged individuals study for their careers, which is equivalent to the proportion of people who study out of interest in the same group. Moreover, the largest proportion of workers studying stemming from interests, namely 70% is from the group aged over 49.

In addition, with reference to the amount of manager support, approximately two thirds is provided for the youngest group (under 26 years old). However, the 30 to 39 years old group receives the least amount of support, which is around half of that for the youngest group, although the amount is merely about 5% less than that for the group aged from 40 to 49.
