Two charts below illustrates the figure of Japanese tourists going oversea from 1985 to 1995 and the sharing of Australia to the Japanese tourist market.

In generally , the figures in two chart represent that they are all in the upward trend. During the first four years, the number of Japanese tourists who go abroad increased gradually as that in Australia.

First of all, over a period of five years, there was a significant increase of the number of people who travel abroad, from 5 million to nearly 11 million. By contrast, in four years later, this number fluctuated roughly 11 million and 15 million . In the last three years, the number of Japanes tourists suddenly rose by two millions, reaching a peak at approximately 16 million in 1995.

Furthermore, the proportion of tourists visiting Australia also went up by 5 percentage in the first four years.
