The pie chart makes a comparison between the proportion of British pupils at one university in United Kingdom who could speak other languages in 2000 and 2010. Overall, there was an increase in the number of students who are able to speak another language other than English in 2010. Furthermore, it could be observed, with the exception of reading, the percentage of students who had knowledge of Spanish in both years were more than others.
In 2000, while 20% of students did not speak any other language except English, there was a decline in this proportion to 10% in 2010. At 30%, Spanish was a language which most students could speak in 2000, then this rose slightly by only 5% ten years later. Meanwhile, French experienced a fall by 5% compared with the last decade given.
Nothing change was seen in the remaining German spoken (10%) as well as the percentage of trilingual students (10%) in 2010. However, 2010 witnessed a 5% rise in the proportion of bilingual students, who had the ability to speak besides German, French and Spanish, representing one fifth of the total.
