The graph illustrates the price changes of average house in five big cities from 1990 to 2002, which were compared with the prices in 1989. Units are measured in percentages. At first glance, it coud be observed that, with the exception of reading, the house price dropped during the period 1990 to 1995, but rose over the following six years especially in New York and in London.

Between 1990 and 1995 the house prices in three cities (New York, Tokyo and London) had become cheaper, which the prices in London and Tokyo decreased sharply to about 7 %, as well as in New York 5 %, compared to the prices in 1989. On the other hand, the percentage change in Madrid and Frankfurt rose slightly to well under 4 %.

Interestingly the value of property in all cities except Frankfurt soared throughout the periode 1996-2002. While London saw a dramatically rise to somewhere in the vicinity of 11 %, in comparison with that of in 1989, price increases of housing in New York, Madrid and Tokyo were 5 %, 4 % and 2 % respectively. In contrast, compared to the previous five years, Frankfurt went through approximately 2 % decline.
