The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station
The process illustrates the production of electricity in a hydroelectric power station.
It is clear that the process commences with water flowing from high-level reservior through the power station and ends with the power lines being transmitted to the national grid.
The first stage of the process starts by the collection of water from the high-level reservior which is separated from the lower bed by a dam. Following this, an intake that only opened during daytime and closed at night permitted the water to flow into the power generator. At this point, reversible turbines are used to operate the power station and the resulting electricity is later on sent to the national grid which is linked by power lines.
At night, the stored water in low-level resevior is pumped back into the high-level resevior by the reversible turbines. This water is then ready to be used in the next day.
