The diagram below shows the life cycle of the salmon.
Summarize the information by selecting and reportinsg the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The given process illustrates the stages through which a salmon undergoes during its entire lifespan.
Overall, it is clear that there are many stages in the life cycle of the salmon, from the eggs to the spawning adult.
At the beginning of the life cycle, the eggs which are from the spawning adult are produced in the water. After around 3 months, the eggs hatch and the alevin comes to existence. It feeds on the yolk-sac for multiple weeks before transforming itself to the next stage.
Over the course of some weeks, the alevin becomes the fry, which is already 5 to 10 weeks old and has the ability to swim freely. Then after several months, it becomes the parr and begins to possess the ‘finger’ markings on the body. Next when it is 1 to 3 years old, it is named the smolt, which can join a group of other counterparts and head to the big sea. After that, the smolt becomes the adult salmon when it spends 1 to 8 years in the ocean. The adult which has the ability to lay eggs usually dies after a fortnight of spawning.
