The diagram shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagram illustrates a process by which electric energy is produced in hydroelectric power station.
Overall, the power stations utilize a two fold process. In part one, accumulated water at high altitude is used to rotate the turbine so that electricity can be generated then the used fluid is also pumped towards the high-level reservoir at night.
Firstly, a dam at the high altitude is used to stop the river flow and accumulate water in a high-level reservoir. As the intakes open, the stored water is passed towards a turbine situated at lower height so that the flow of the running water rotates the turbine without any additional energy. Due to this rotation, the production of electricity occurs which is assembled in a generator connected by wires. Lastly, the generator passes the electric power to the nation grid via power cables.
On the other hand, the used liquid is collected in a low-level reservoir. Although, the collected water is pumped upwards by the turbine, a little amount of produced energy is utilized at night. As a result, the circle continues.
