The pictorial diagrams illustrate the circulation of life of a large fish named the Salmon. Generally, there are three main stages of the development from fry to smolt to adult salmon.
In the very first stage, salmon eggs are spawned among reeds and small stones in the upper river with slow-moving current. For about 5 to 6 months, small stones called 'fry' then hatch out of the eggs and they can size up from 3 to 8 centimeters. In the next stage, they move to the lower river where it has fast-flowing water, they live here for 4 years.
After 4 years, young 'fry' develop into 'smolt' which have their length around 12 to 15 centimeters. At this stage, 'smolt' migrate into the open sea where they spend about 5 years before changing into matured one. The matured salmon are known as 'adult salmon', whose size ranges from 70 to 76 centimeters long. Finally, the adult salmon move back to spawning area in upper river to lay eggs and the life cycle begins again.
