The first chart below gives information about the money spent by British parents on their children’s sports between 2008 and 2014. The second chart shows the number of children who participated in three sports in Britain over the same time period.

The two charts illustrate the amount of money spent on children’s sport activities every month and how many British children took part in three different sports from 2008 to 2014.
Overall, during the six-year period, parents spent more and more on the participation of children in sports while number of children playing football was the highest among the three sports.
In 2008, the average monthly amount spent on children’s sport was about 20P. During the next 6 years, that figure increased by just over 10P.
In terms of sports doing by British children, the most popular sport in 2008 was football, with more than 7.5 million children took part in compared to just about 2.5 million children participating in swimming and almost 1 million of whom in athletics. Over the following years, the number of football participants seemed to remain stable while that of swimming was almost doubled in 2014. Athletics experienced a fivefold increase in the amount of children enrolled in and ended up at just less than 5 million children in the last year of the period shown.
