The line chart illustrates the changing pattern in rates of newborn babies in China and America over a course of 80 years starting in 1920.
Looking at the graph, it is immediately obvious that the birth rates of both countries experienced a downward trend from 1920 to 2000. In most years, the birth rates of the USA was higher than that of China.
In 1920, the birth rates of the USA registered at roughly 12% .this figures fluctuated throughout 30 years and reached a peak of 15% by the year 1950. A similar trend was witnessed in the birth rate of China, which stood at 10% in 1920 and peaked at 20% in 1950.
In 1955, the proportion of women who gave birth in America was recorded at 13%. this figures steeply decreased to approximately 7% by the end of the examined period. The birth rates of China witnessed a similar trend, which rapidly fell from 9% to 2% between 1955 and 2000.
