The graph below shows the contribution of three sectors – agriculture, manufacturing, and business and financial services – to the UK economy in the twentieth century.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The given bar chart illustrates the total contribution of the three areas, namely agriculture, manufacturing, and business and finance over the course of a century.
Overall, the contribution of agriculture and manufacturing decreased over time, whereas the opposite is true for the field of business and finance services.
Agriculture contributed around 48% at the beginning of the 20th century, then went up minimally 50 years later. After that time, it witnessed a dramatic downfall to about 10% and 2% in 1975 and 2000, being the lowest figure among the three sectors. The same pattern is conspicuous for the manufacturing area, at 45% in 1900. In the middle of the century, it went down slightly to about under 40%, and then gradually dropped by 5% in 1975. The figure kept decreasing by two times in 2000.
In contrast, there was an augmentation in business and finance although it commenced at a very low point - 3% in 1990. After that the proportion reached 10% in 1950, and doubled in 1975, and eventually became the sector with the greatest contribution in 2000, with around 35%.
