The graph gives information about how many noise complaints from 4 different areas were received by Environment Health authorities in the city of Newton from 1980 to 1996.
Overall, it can be seen that by 1996, vast noise irritation were coming from homes. Whereas, the least one was from road maintenances.
To begin with, just over 600 noise complaints were coming from road works in 1980 which was the largest record during that time. However, the trend decreased dramatically to about 100 by 1996. Followingly, complaints from housing areas stood around 500 before remaining constant to 400 from 1986 to 1988. But it was not until end of the year which the value tripled to that amount.
Turning to the industry graph line, it showed an upward trend during the 16 year period accounting for 400 to roughly 700. Finally, the fewest complaint noise was from the traffic. Initially, it stood just 300 and remained the same until 1984. After a couple of years later, the number of complaints decreased to 200 by 1986 but the proportion tripled to that amount in the next 18 years. In fact, homes and traffic experienced similar trends throughout the period.
