The graph depicts the number of trips made by children, using various means of transport, to travel to and from school. It compares the numbers in the years 1990 and 2010. In almost every way except for car passengers, the number of trips the children have to make is fewer in 2010 than in 1990. In 1990, the highest number of trips were 12 million, recorded by the students who walked to reach/leave school. It is nearly 3 times than those who came in a car which attained the lowest of just above 4 million children. Other means like cycling, bus, walking and then a bus are all in the ballpark of six million children.
In 2010, many developments might have taken place as these numbers showed considerable variation. The highest number of trips were done by children travelling by car while the lowest is recorded by children who cycle. While the children who cycle is jus around 2 million, the trips done in a car is around 10.5- 11 million which is greater than 5 times than those done by cycling.
It can also be noted that while in 1990, technology and easy access were available o a limited scale, the number of trips is greater then. Slowly, as more technology is invented and transport became more affordable, people started to move more frequently in cars.
The highest increase between both years can be seen through the car while the highest decrease was seen through walking. So more people are willing to travel quickly rather than walking which takes a considerable amount of time.
