The line graph illustrates the percentage of elderly people who are more than 65 years old between the time period of 1940 and 2040 in such three countries, as Japan, Sweden and the USA.
In 1940 there were only 5% who were 65 and more in Japan, while in Sweden and the USA the number of elder people was 8 and 10% respectively. From 1940 to 1980 the percentage in both Sweden and USA increased gradually to 15%. During the period of 1980-2015 it is possible to observe a slight drop of this population in the USA to 14%, and a steady rise of the number of elderly people up to 23% until 2040. As for Sweden, there was a considerable fluctuation in the percentage between the time period of 2000-2040, and finally reached a pick of 25% in the year 2040.
The number of elder people in Japan had decreased gradually between 1940 and 1960, than levelled off until the year 1985. From that time there was a constant rise in the percentage of elderly people in Japan from 1985 to 2030. Finally, the percentage will increase sharply and in 2040 reach the highest point of 27%.
In conclusion, during the century the number of elder people have increased, and there will not a big difference between the number of population who are more than 65 in 2040 in all 3 countries.
