The graphs below show the enrolments of overseas students and local students in Australian universities over a ten year period.

The line graph illustrates number of domestic and international students who enrolled in universities of Australia. The graph covers the period of ten years.
Overall, it can be seen that the total amount of foreign students was increasing, while the total enrolments of local students had increased and reached a plateau. The commencing enrolments raised and stabilized for overseas students, and fluctuated for domestic ones.
In 2001, there were 20000 students from foreign countries and 400000 people from Australia. In 2007, number of total enrolments of Australian students peaked at 600000 and had remained at this position for next 4 years. Amount of commencing international students started at approximately 10000 people and increased to 40000 students in 2009. After that, it had remained unchanged till 2011. In contrast to foreign students, the amount of commencing Australian students fluctuated for a whole period. It reached the lowest point at 180000 in 2001, and the highest one at 220000 in 2002.
