The given line chart above illustrates the proportion of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales for over 93 year-period from 1918 to 2011.
Overall, It can be seen that the percentage of households in owned accommodation decreased significantly between 1918 and 2011. Otherwise the proportion of households in rented accommodation increased slightly through out the period.
In the first year the percentage of household in owned accommodation reached the peak at over 70 percent. In the following years the figures dropped down dramatically to 2001 and stopped at 30 percent. After ten year the proportion went up slightly at over 30 percent.
Whereas in 1918 the proportion of household in rented was just over 20 percent. After 53 years the percentage increased noticeably and had the same figure with the proportion of household in owned accommodation. After that the proportion increased slightly and reached peak in 2001 at approximately 70 percent. But the figures dropped slightly in the last year.
