IELTS 10 Test 1 Writing Task 1 - Academic

The diagrams illustrate the usage of household energy and greenhouse emissions according to the usage in an average Australian family.

Overall, it is clear to see that heating and water heating are used in the majority of proportion in the household. However, it is other kinds of energy that generate the most greenhouse energy.

Look at the pie chart which shows the Australian household energy use. We can notice that heating is used in a major proportion with 42% and the level of water heating is after it with 30%. Other appliances has the proportion that is half of water heating(15%) and the rest kinds of energy are used in an insignificant level with 7% for refrigeration, 4% for lighting and 2% for cooling.

As for greenhouse gas emissions of each energy use, it is obvious that insignificant energy use takes major part in resulting in gas emissions, with a total proportion of 53%. All these kinds of energy emit greenhouse gas with the proportions that are almost twice larger than their average use while cooling and water heating produce more percentages of gas than their energy use. Moreover, heating only has the proportion of 15% of its greenhouse gas emissions, which is over half of its level of energy use.
