The line graph below shows the percentage of tourists to Scotland who visited four different attractions.
The line chart provided illustrates how many holidaymakers visited four separate places of interest in Scotland over a 30-year period from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, the percentage of travelers visiting castles and zoos increased while the opposite was true for aquariums and festivals over the period. Furthermore, among the places, castle was the most popular destination.
In 1980, the percentage of tourists who came to castles was about a quarter, which was considerably higher than the figure for zoos, accounting for only 10%. Over the following 20 years, the popularity of castles rocketed and reached a peak of approximately 45% in 1995, before declining significantly to just over 30% in 2010. By contrast, there was a slight fluctuation in the number of zoo visitors between 10% and 15% in the first 20 years, followed by a dramatic increase to 20% at the end of the period.
Regarding the remaining attractions, festivals were the most popular in 1980 with 30% of tourists and the figure for aquariums was 20%. By 1985, the percentage of travelers going to aquariums had peaked at nearly 35%, followed by a collapse to 20% in the following five years. After that, the figure suffered a moderate reduction to just under 10% in 2010. Meanwhile, the popularity of festivals experienced a gradual decrease throughout the period, dropping by 10% to 20% in 2010.
