The quantity of car thefts is highest among three different crimes, so it is the majority of crimes in England and Wale.
The trend of car theft and house burgling were similar during 35 years period. In which, from 1970 to 1980 there was a significant growth in car theft and house burgling. The number of car theft rose from 0.4 to 0.8 million, while house burgling grew from 0.2 to 0.4 million. Between 1980 and 1990, car theft saw a considerable rise to 1 million. House burgling remained stable at 0.6 million, then gradually grew to approximately 0.7 million. From 1990 to 2005, both car theft and house burgling fluctuated.
Street robbery stayed constant at about 0.1 million from 1970 to 1995. By contrast, 10 years later, a steep increase was seen in the number of street robberies to 0.2 million, then no change stability.
