the line graph shows the number of trips to other countries by UK residents for various purposes between 1989 and 2001

The given line graph gives the information on how many excursions the British made for different reasons over the course of 12 years starting from 1989. Whereas, the particular number of trips made every year was depicted in the table. Units are measured by millions.

Overall, all purposes witnessed a similar trend with the exception of holidays, it plummeted. It is also evident that in 1998 registered the highest number of trips was made out of five years examined.

Concerning the line chart, at the start of the period, the figure for trips made for holiday purpose was exactly 30 million, nearly threefold that of three remaining purposes within the same timespan. There was a decline thereafter after it reached the peak of 50 million in 1998. Similarly, over the period of 12 years, business trips and trips with other purposes marginally declined, before bottoming at under 10 million at the end of the period. An opposite trend can be seen in the number of trips to visit family members, which witnessed a steady growth throughout the given period.

Regarding the table, considerably more than 70 million trips were made in 1998. In contrast, at the beginning of the period, the number of excursions was the least, nearly 50 million. This figure experienced a wild fluctuation before ending at 61 million in the final year.
