The pie charts below compare the proportion of energy capacity in gigawatts GW in 2015 with the predictions for 2040

Essay topics:

The pie charts below compare the proportion of energy capacity in gigawatts (GW) in 2015 with the predictions for 2040.

The provided pie charts compares, for 2015 and 2040 projections, the amount of energy capacity available from 5 different sources. The measuring unit is gigawatts (GW).

At first glance, it is apparent that a doubling in the total capacity, from 6.688 GW to 11.678 GW, is expected in 2040, when the energy production of non-renewable sources is likely to reduce, and rely more heavily on the rest of the four types.

Looking into the details, energy from fossil fuels, in 2015, is more than half of the entire production at 64%. Most striking statistic is the difference between the more accessible renewable energy forms and those that come under the “Others” category. The former are half that of the latter, which stands at 23%.

However, this may change in 2040, as the predictions show Solar increasing to 18%, whereas it was only 2% in 2015. Similarly, wind energy’s rise may also be twofold from 5% to 12%, although Nuclear and “Others” are going to remain roughly the same at one fifth and one twentieth, respectively.
