The pie charts compare the percentages of money spent on five different categories in Japan and Malaysia in the year 2010.

Overall, the highest proportion of money went on other goods and services in Japan and housing in Malaysia.By contrast, expenditure on health care was
by far the lowest in both countries.

In terms of household expenditures, people in Japan spent their highest percentage of money on other goods and services, at 29%, which was 3% higher than that of people in Malaysia. However, 34% of Malaysian people's spending went on to housing which was roughly 1.5 times greater than the money spent by Japanese people. In case of food, the figures were quite similar for both Japan and Malaysia, at 27% and 24% respectively.

On the other hand, expenditure on transportation and health care were lower in proportions for both countries. In Japan, people paid out 6% of their money on healthcare, while Malaysian people spent half of Japanese. Furthermore, Japanese citizens spent double the percentage of money compared to Malaysian citizens on transport, at 20% and 10% sequentially in year of 2010.
