Overall, it can be seen that the sales of adult fiction and children’s fiction has increased over four decades, while the sales of biography, travel, and other books decreased.
In 1972, the sales of adult fiction, children’s fiction, and biography were one-fifth of the total sales, but the genre of travel and others accounted for 25% and 15% respectively.
By 1992, adult fiction was at the top of the sales for a quarter. In addition, children’s fiction and travel books had risen to 22%, and 18% respectively, but biography and others had fallen by 5%.
At the final period, in 2012, adult fiction has become the most popular type for more than two-fifths, children’s fiction rose to a quarter, therefore, travel and others had declined to 10% and 12% respectively. Dramatically, biography was considered a least attractive book.
