Overall, a significant amount of boys spend of their leisure time in computer games, while the least popular leisure activity among boys is reading. In comparison, girls mostly enjoy dancing among all the cultural and leisure activities and the only a small number of girls enjoy listening to music as their leisure activity.
Reading as a leisure activity is very rare among boys as only 2% of the boys enjoys reading while this activity experienced a more than tenfold increase to 21% among girls’ interest during their leisure. Interestingly, while more than a quarter of girls surveyed enjoys dancing as their leisure activity, this activity is not seen among boys at all. Other activities that are non-existent among boys but often liked by girls as one of their leisure and cultural activity is gymnastics and netball.
Basketball, Soccer and Skateboarding accounts for the leisure activities of 26% , 17% and 11% of the boys surveyed. But no girls surveyed participates in these outdoor games. Moreover, computer games are played by 34% of the boys but these figure experiences a drop among the girls as only 16% of the girls enjoy playing computer games. On the contrary, listening to music is the only leisure activity t that remains constant at a 10% participation in both boys and girls.
