The table compares different types of transporations used by the people in England for travelling in the years 1985 and 2000. Units are measured in miles.
Overall, the total distance travelled in the country increased, with car being the most preferred type of transportion in both years and taxi being used least in 1985 compared to bicycle in 2000.
In both years, travelling by car was the most popular in England, accounting for 3199 miles in the first year and rising significantly to 4806 miles after 15-year period. Train and other types of transports were used more in 2000, increasing to 366 miles and 585 miles respectively. Taxi and Long distance bus, which were the least popular in 1985, also showed a rise to 42 miles and 124 miles respectively.
On the other hand, other modes of travel experienced a decline over the period given. Local bus, the third most used transport type in 1985 with 429 miles, declined to just 274 miles in 2000. Moreover, people in the UK walked and rode bicycle less at the end of the period and the figures for those fell to 237 miles and 41 miles respectively.
