The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.
The table show percentages of consumer expenditure for three categories of products and services in five countries in 2002.
It can be seen that the majority of spending in each country went on food, drinks and tobacco. On the other hand, leisure/ education category received the least payment from consumers.
Turkey and Ireland held noticeably higher rate of consumption on food, drink and tobacco compared to other countries, at 32.14% and nearly 29% respectively. Additionally, with regard to didactic and recreational investment, Turkey was also the highest among 5 countries, at just over 4%. Standing at 9% in fashion-related equipment expenditure, it was Italy which percentage of consumption in this category was significant higher than other countries.
It can also be seen that Sweden had the least percentages of national consumer spending for food/drinks/tobacco (15.77%) and for clothing/footwear (5.40%). The figures for Spain in these 2 categories was slightly higher, however, proportion of spending for the last category was significantly lower than others, with just over 2%.
