Essay topics:

The table below shows the monthly expenditure of an average Australian family in 1991 and 2001.

The tabular data depicts the average spending which was done by Australian families on a monthly basis for essential and non-essential goods and services in 1991 and a decade later.

Overall, it can be manifested that the spending done by the Australians augmented though the increase was minimal. Interestingly, the highest expenditure in both the years was for food, whereas the least was on clothes.

To commence with, since the past decade, Australians ended up spending $715 compared to $675 ten years back and amongst it, the expenditure of an Australian family was the highest for food in both the years with an increase of 5 dollars. A similar rise took place for housing, where the former one ended at 160 dollars and the latter one with 100 dollars. Notably, electricity and water had the highest growth of 45 dollars (from $75 in 1991 to $120 in 2001).

However, an opposing trend can be witnessed as the money spent on clothing and transportation, where clothing had the lowest share of the figure in 1991 and it further declined in 2001 from 30 dollars to 20 dollars respectively. Likewise, a similar drop of 25 dollars took place in the given period for transportation ending at $45. Finally, the combined spending on other items increased by $20($250 to $270).
