Essay topics:

The table below shows personal savings as a percentage of personal income for selected countries in 1970, 1990 and 2000.

The table compares the seven countries in terms of percentages of personal income going into savings in the years 1970, 1990 and 2000.

Overall, Italians were the biggest money savers in both 1970 and 1990; however, in 2000, the French and Japaneses took over its place.

In 1970, an average Italian saved 29.5% of his total income, and that figure was approximately twice as high as those for France, Japan and Germany. The savings rate in the UK, the USA and Canada didn’t show much difference, though Canada had the lowest one with 5.6%.

In 1990, all countries saw a decrease of between 1% to 11% in proportions of savings, with the exception of Germany, whose figure remained unchanged at 13.8%, and Canada, where saving rates increased significantly by 6%.

In 2000, France and Japan became the leading countries, with 13.6% of saving rates, followed by Germany, Italy and the UK, with just under 12% each. However, Americans saved only 4% of their total income, and in Canada, just 1.9% of money went into savings, which had become the lowest rate during the given period.
