The table depicts the size of forests in six different areas, namely Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America in three separate years (1990, 2000 and 2005).
Overall, the forested land of Europe accounted for the highest number of the table, compared to the lowest data of Oceania. It is also clear that the forested land in Africa, North America, Oceania and South America decreased through 15 years, opposite to the increase in the remaining areas.
In 1990, while the forested area in Europe was 989 hectars and increased to 1001 hectars in the next 15 years, the number of that in Oceania was only 199 ha and 197 ha respectively. The second widest forest in the world was South America with 946 hectars of forested land in 1990, but this number decreased to 904 and 882 hectars in 2000 and 2005.
It is noticeable that North America and Africa had nearly the same number of forested land in 2000 ( 709 ha and 705 ha accordingly ). However, the figure of Africa continued to decline to 691 ha in 2005, compared to the unchanged figure in North America. Asia had the increase in their size of forest lands, starting from 576 hectars in 1990 and ending with 584 hectars in 2005.
