Task 1. The graph below shows the percentage of Australian exports to 4 countries from 1990 to 2012

The line graph demonstrates the proportion of exports from Australia to Japan compared to the United States, China and India over 22 years.

Overall, it is obvious that there was a distinct trend between the percentage of Australian oversea freights to Japan, the US and China, India. Furthermore, while China and India’s commodity market attracted more exports, Japan and the US experienced a downward trend during the survey. With regard to this, before 2005, highest percentage of exports to before being surpassed by that of China by the end of the period.

To begin with, in 1990, the figures for Japan stood at about 27.5 percent, which is about twice times as much as the US’ proportion, before diving to 20 percent in the next five years. What is more? By contrast, exports to China and India were low, at 2% and 1%, respectively, and exports to the USA fell to 9% in 1995, the figure for exports to China and India rose slowly.

On the other hand, since the proportion of exports to China overtook those of Japan and reached a peak of 30% in 2005, the export market had some fluctuations. It is remarkable that there was a sharp decrease in the percentage of Japan, which accounted for 14% in the last year of the period. Meanwhile, the figures for India also fluctuated, these rose overall to 6% in 2012.
