village in Stokeford
The two given maps illustrate the transformation of a village in Stokeford between 1930 and 2010. Generally, this area had experienced significant modernization with the disappearance of the farmlands and the emergence of far more accommodation for residents by 2010.
In 1930, Stokeford village lied in the east of the River Stoke, with a main road running from the north to the south of the town. On both sides of the main road, there were some houses, a post office and a primary school. Over the next 80 years, while the post office remained unchanged, the two shops were replaced by several houses. Moreover, the primary school was extended with two smaller buildings constructed to the west side and formed, forming the a U-shape structure. A striking change is that some side roads were constructed for greater connection within the town, on which there were several new houses.
A noticeable development is that the farmlands used to lie in both the west and the east of the main road, but they disappeared to make way for residential areas. Furthermore, the gardens had been reduced in size and the large house inside had been repurposed into a retirement home by 2010.
