The Graph below shows average carbon dioxide CO2 emissions per person in the United Kindom Sweden Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007 Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant

The line graph illustrates the trends in carbon dioxide emission habits by one person in Britain and three other European countries over 40 years from 1967 to 2007. The figures are given in metric tonnes.

Overall, it is clear that the United Kingdom had the highest emission per person, while the Portuguese released the least gas. Furthermore, the rate of emissions by the Italian and Portuguese inhabitant steadily increased, in contrast to the British and Swedish who experienced a decline.

In 1967, a resident in Britain gave off approximately eleven metric tonnes of CO2, which is the highest quantity shown. For the next ten years, this figure was steady before dropping to about nine metric weight unit by the end of the period. Similarly, a Swedish inhabitant produced around nine metric tonnes at the start of the year, when the figure, however, peaked after a decade to around ten metric tonnes. Following this, it saw a drop to seven metric tonnes in 1987 and a further drop to finish at over five in 2007.

On the contrary, the emitting rates of the other two countries significantly climbed during the given period. The Portuguese emission was around one metric tonne in 1967 but grew strikingly by almost fivefold to end with the same figure as Sweden. Lastly, Italy started with just over four metric tonnes emissions per person and increased dramatically to almost double three decades later after which it remained stayed the same till the concluding year.
