You borrowed some books from your school/college library. Unfortunately, you have to go away to visit a sick relative and cannot return the books in time.
Write a letter to the library and explain what has happened and tell them what you want to do about it.
Dear Mr.John,
I am writing to inform you about a problem and request your cooperation in this regard.
I recently borrowed two books of English literature from the library for one week. I am worried because I would not be able to return them on time. The reason is that I have to reach Lahore today as my grandmother who lives in Lahore has fallen down from staircase and got injured her ankle. My parents are out of country so I am the only family member who can look after her. Therefore, I am leaving for Lahore today to be with her in hospital.
I have handed over the books to my friend whose name is Maria. She is given the responsibility of bringing them back to you within one or two days. I hope that you would complete rest of the process of receiving the books and I would not be charged a fine/penalty. I wish my grandmother were recovered soon.
I would be thankful to you for showing your support and cooperation in this regard. I am looking forward to visiting you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Syed Ali.
